Watch more sunsets than Netflix

Long story short- I Am an opacarophile – a lover of sunset.

How many times does one get a chance to watch the sunsets?

Very rare, City life is all about being engaged with multiple thoughts and commuting busy. Despite the busy and chaotic day one manages to find their peace watching sunsets.

Sunsets have calming power for me. A gloriously setting sun can wipe away my anxieties, restore peace, and remind me that I am a small part of the bigger picture. That life is so much more than my worries and bad attitude. They make me feel small in good way. They remind me of beauty that’s out there when our world can seem so ugly. Full of conflict strive, greed , selfishness or even just stress and wrong thinking.

Looking at sunsets gives me a great sense of peace. I have multiple sunset memories but two such memories would love to share. Last year at this time I went to Surya Lanka beach with my friends in Bapatla dist. of Andhra located at the coast of Bay of Bengal. It was such a beautiful place and wonderful experience. Sunsets represent beauty on different levels. I wait for the sun to set slowly, watching the beautiful mix of colours lighting up the sky. We stayed there for a stretch of 2 days. Since so much was going on around the world this was like a hope which just felt the need to see a thing of beauty and get this spot in a serene environment.

Another story was recently I had been to my native chikmagalur dist. of Karnataka which is itself a hill station. Kemmangundi peak sunset point, one of the most popular tourist destinations located in the heart of western ghats. The panoramic view of the hills, valleys and the surrounding is a sight to behold. Those lights make me feel so good about myself, about this universe, about our existence…. I went speechless. I believe it’s a welcome scenery for anyone. It gives a sense of hope that whatever you went through or going through will end and a new day will be better. A promise of new dawn, new hope to work hard, a new day to enjoy and celebrate life!

There have been times, I have been rolling down my tears looking at the sunset. As if it knows what’s inside me, and it's not hidden. They are powerful and beautiful at the same time. Sunsets have the most amazing light rays, which makes the surrounding look so pretty. It has the ability to turn everything into beauty, and it has never failed to do that, not even once.

If you are one of those lucky people who have been around me when I stop to admire the atmosphere (sky, sunsets, sunrise, moon, clouds etc), you’ll know that I simply cannot ignore it. I’ll have my phone out ready to capture the moment. Currently my photo album titled “sky” has 100+ pictures of nothing else but the times I have looked up and thought “woooooww”. I generally interrupt whatever i'm doing and blurt something qlong the lines of, “ooh look at the (sky, sunrise, sunset, moon)”. No other commentaries is necessary.

Iam far from being a harsh critic. It could be the sun moon sky cloud, anything that catches my attention as I glance up at the ever changing sky. From minute to minute , the vibrant pigments thrown across the canvas are never the same. The colours are ever blending, ever fading and ever evolving as the sky is. It's incredible to see how the sun hides behind the clouds but lets its glow peek around the edges, outlining the  shape of the clouds and making them glow among all the rest- a literal silver lining in the clouds.

The fact that you never ever see the same sunset, sunrise, sky, moon or any entity of this atmosphere twice is what astounds me. That's why I never get tired of being there for the masterpiece that makes its continuous appearance.

Maybe I hold so much fondness for the sunsets because of its being one of the few constant elements in life. No matter what they are always present be it the torrential rains , clouds, rough day but at the end the  sunset is a peaceful addition. No man’s creation can compare.

Tell me who doesn’t love of course a few who are still part of this magical beauty. The uncountable shades of crimson, saffron, golden, lemon, fuchsia and lavender amidst the blue sheet in dark and  light patches on the background gives a tingling sensation and makes me nostalgic, positive and courageous.

Sunsets are like kaleidoscopic canvases that show our past, present, and future. It is a junction where the trio meet! It is what we call the bigger picture, full HD and 3D ability that could only touch your heart, only if you have the sight.

Dusk reminds me that I want life to be about inspiring others, walking in kindness, extending grace and seeing other people. Not through my eyes but through my faith. And choosing to do that even when I don’t feel like it. Sunsets are the best, I could watch it everyday.
